All tours will take place on TDLT and USFS lands and start at 9:00 a.m.  Kids over 12 and well-behaved dogs are welcome on all hikes, except for the Van Norden Meadow hike where dogs would disturb nesting birds. To sign up for hikes please visit registration.tdlandtrust.org

June 23rd: Van Norden Meadow Nature Hike
Led by Donner Summit historian Bill Oudegeest and TDLT board members Geoff Griffin and Janet Zipser Zipkin. Meet at 2nd parking lot after crossing the railroad tracks on Soda Springs Rd. Easy hike around this lovely meadow. Learn the history of the California emigrants who impacted this area. View Native American grinding rocks, sheepherders’ cabins, wildflowers, birds, and butterflies. Because of the sensitivity of ground nesting birds, we ask that you kindly leave your dogs at home for this hike. Distance ~ 5 miles.

June 30 –  Forest Service Ridge (formerly Snow Mountain) (co-sponsored with the SLPOA)
This hike along Forest Service Ridge affords some of the best views of the east side of the open space including the Summit Valley, Sugar Bowl and Serene Lakes. The trail winds through shady forest up onto the rocky ridgeline that borders Van Norden Meadow. Coming back we should see a great display of bright yellow Mule’s Ear that carpet the meadows at the bottom of the ridge. (Distance: ~ 3 miles – Exertion level: moderate – Start location Beacon Meadow on Soda Springs Rd in Serene Lakes, Map link )

July 14th: Lyle’s Lookout Hike (co-sponsored with SLPOA)
